Adult - Kemodo Baptist Vocational Centre
Overview
Kemodo Baptist Vocational Centre welcomed its first class in January 2024 and has already celebrated the graduation of four tailoring classes and eight computer classes. Every course is offered free of charge, giving individuals the chance to gain practical, income‑generating skills that can strengthen and support their families. Each session begins with daily devotions, creating space for spiritual growth and grounding the program in faith. Current training opportunities include computer basics and tailoring, with every graduate stepping forward equipped with new confidence, new abilities, and new hope for the future.
Current Ministry Areas
Kemodo Baptist Vocational Centre operates through the generosity and creativity of its local partners, using the spaces already available at Kemodo Baptist Church for tailoring classes and Kemodo Baptist Academy for computer training. The ministry currently owns six treadle‑style sewing machines, and the computer lab is made available after school hours so participants can learn without cost. Parents are welcome to bring their children, removing the barrier of childcare and making the program accessible to anyone eager to grow. With these skills, graduates are equipped to earn income from home or launch small businesses, creating new pathways toward stability and independence.
The Future
Word of these first courses has spread quickly, revealing just how great the need is for skills training and sustainable income opportunities in Busia. Our hope is to expand the vocational program to include additional courses such as nail care, hairdressing, and welding, along with other practical skills that can open doors for long‑term stability. We also pray for the ability to equip graduates with the starter tools they need—like a sewing machine, laptop, or basic professional kit—so they can begin earning immediately after completing their training.
